another disc release…

I mailed out Katie and Matt’s disc a while back, but haven’t found the time to blog it. Until now.

For their case, I decided to keep their theme with the colors – black and white. After a long search on the web I found a beautiful damask pattern. I also tried a different material for the case – something with texture that resembled canvas. I decided on textured case (over a metallic case) because I wanted my fave photo to look as if it was an oil painting. And I think it turned out great.

I’ll be your crying shoulder,
I’ll be love’s suicide
I’ll be better when I’m older,
I’ll be the greatest fan of your life.

engagement :: erica + brian

with one comment

Aloha.

In Hawaiin it means love, peace, affection, and compassion. And which couple exudes all 4? Erica and Brian.

I met Erica and Brian 5 years ago through my cousin. Erica’s a compassionate nurse and Brian has a passion for his sport (can you guess which sport?). Over the years that I’ve known them they’re one of the kindest and warm-hearted people I know and I’m the lucky one to have them as part of my life as dear friends.

Both Erica and Brian are from Hawaii and they wanted an engagement session that represented them – the beach, of course. They brought their ukulele, played a few melodies, and brought their passion and romance for each other in front of my camera. I’m in photography heaven with their shoot.

When you’re done with this post, don’t forget to see the rest of the highlights here.

AND TONS MORE HERE! :)

the athlete within…

Remember a few posts back when I said that spring was when I’d make new resolutions for the year and that there would be lots of changes for me?

One of those resolutions is to try to stay on top of my phoblogging (no, not pho+blogging… photography+blogging) even if that means posting a photo or two about my daily life. The other resolution was to stay fit and healthy and to challenge myself (physically). Call me a mad woman, but I’ve already completed 3 half marathons within weeks apart and now I’ve found myself training a sprint triathlon in September. Yes. BIG changes (considering I’ve never been an athlete since playing volleyball in highschool and that doesn’t even count because I don’t think I broke sweat warming the bench – I kid… I was NEVER a bench warmer). I like challenges. And I like to challenge myself.

The one thing about my resolution to stay fit is that it can get expensive. Being fit is not cheap. At least not for me. Being as resourceful as I am, I sold my old road bike and picked up a few small photography gigs to afford this new lovely… she’s a beauty. See you on the road fellow riders!

the lesson :: dynamic composition

leave a comment »

A few weeks ago I had the fabulous opportunity to attend a mini workshop on Dynamic Composition lead by Greg Bumatay of Bumatay Studio. I’ve never attended a photography workshop before and haven’t been formally schooled in the art of photography so my brain was like a sponge – I willingly absorbed all that Greg had to say. He started the mini lecture on rules. We all know the basic rule to composing a photograph called The Rule of Thirds. Simple. But Greg challenged us to bend those rules to make a photo more dynamic. What the heck does dynamic mean anyway? In business school, the word is used a lot (sometimes TOO much). In photography, it means creating something with force or energy – giving what could be a plain ol’ image some OOOMF. Yes, some POW. BANG. ZAP. And how do we do this? By bending the rules (and that’s rule #1). I would recommend taking this workshop with Greg as it’ll help you look through the looking glass with a pair of new eyes. He discusses how to compose a shot using leading lines, diagonals, negative space (my fave), symmetry, shadows, and geometric shapes.

On to some of the images I shot while keeping in mind some of what I learned from Greg’s brilliant workshop.

Thank you for inviting me out, Greg!
